Love’s Remedies’ microresidency with artists Carolina Hicks and Hanieh Khatibi suddenly pivoted upon the onset of COVID-19. With no access to institutional space, core artists BRD & Hannah Varamini offered weekly time to virtually sit and be together: intentional and ongoing conversations carved a space of intimacy, dependency, and rambling activation. In May, the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many other fatal cases of police brutality, shifted attention once more. The group sought to address their own complicity in perpetuating inequity through structural and personal relations.
In July, the communal processing manifested in an exhibition in the windows of ArtCenter’s then-closed DTLA space.
